Thanks to the two Brians from Canada for their visit! ALways great to meet up with fellow car people especially from across the oceans! Hope you guys enjoyed the short (and very wet!) visit.
I am looking at a 1956 Hudson/Nash station wagon...cant seem to stop collecting... Still extreme slow progress. Did add the taillights and rear valance, boot handle and name script. Just to feel that there is small progress. At least the car has its name back! Also started with the front headlights.

Here are some photos of the past weekends cut and polish work. I am allright with the result although it is not perfect. I am gonna leave it as is for the time being as I am really tired of this now. Will soon start assembly.

Yes, they are flat metal with the tabs bent at right angles. My rubber was totally rotten, but I dont think it needs to be bonded as the screws will hold it tight anyway. I would think that a galvanised or stainless material would work nice, but it needs to be rather thin so it can bent to the body shape but also be stiff enough to actually hold the rubber.
My steering wheel is black as the car was a standard model. No fancy paint here. Seeing as yours is painted already I think it would look great in the same cream as the body. The auto paint works great, just roughen it up with some sanding paper. I did this on my 61 chev steering wheel and it is still in good condition. What is your plans with the dash?

Hi Michael
Nice Jack. Is that a wire haired model? Here is i hope some better photos. The pieces are in a bad state and rusted. I found that the rubber traps moisture and dust then rusting underneath. This was the only place on my car with some rust through cause of this rubber. I understand your problem with rain. I will probably never use my car in the rain and it is under cover all the time. Also our hot weather will help to dry out the car quickly. Your cars paint looks great! Great color. Barrie

Hi Michael
Here is some photos I took yesterday. The metal strip are rather thin so easily bendable. I think it will be possible to fabricate your own. they are about 80cm long. I dont know why one is shorter. Barrie

Hi Michael
Sorry for the delay. I had a heck of a bad work week. Will get that photos tonight! East London might have been the port of entry for the CKD's. In South Africa East London and especially Port Elizabeth is called the motor cities. These days all the big manufacturers are based in Port Elizabeth cause of the better harbour for exports. Barrie

Hi Michael
Sorry for being so late in replying. I recognise the Leon Motors distributor in Eloff street Johannesburg. I have a little plate on my dash with their name. Will get a picture of this for you. I will also talk to a guy who worked at this garage when they still existed. As to the pieces of metal to keep the rubber attached - I still have mine, but will not be replacing as I see that it creates problems with water and rust. So I will just have the normal after market rubber around the door. I will look for the piece of metal and take measurements and photos for you. It will not be that hard to make yourself I think. Hope this helps.
