Thanks for the offer Fuelizer but just a few weeks late. I ended up purchasing a repro casting from Packard Seattle. If for some reason it does not fit, I will keep you in mind.
I also found an ignition switch on E-bay that looks pretty similar and fits. It also has a key!

Replaced my 1928 526 tires with the following:
www.universaltire.com/600-20-us-royal-blackwall.html They are rated as truck tires but have the high weight rating needed for the heavy Packard sedans.

Can anyone post a close-up photo of an original ignition switch? It would help me considerably in locating a repro close to the original.

Need a 1928 ignition switch and gas pedal

My gas pedal was broken and a previous owner spliced a sleeve on the shaft and half of the foot end was broken off. Need a new one. Anybody have any spares? I also need to find an ignition switch with a bezel to match the original. Anyone know which of the aftermarket switches match? I plan to use a separate coil under the dash so I do not want the original combined switch/coil unit but the bezel might work with an aftermarket switch.

1928 526 spare tire mounting help
|
||||
---|---|---|---|---|

I have the spare tire holder and brace rod. The brace rod goes through the holder and has a lock washer and nut placed on the inside of the holder. I also have a round disk with a hole in the middle. What holds the tire in place? What parts am I missing? I have a plug lock with a key but it looks like it just fills the hole and does not provide any support to hold the spare tire in place. The owners manual tells of placing the disk in place with the word "up" in the 12 o'clock position.
Can anyone tell me the proper order of mounting the spare tire. Can anyone provide photos of it and photos of any missing hardware I still need to procure? Wish we had cutaway views of the older cars.

Nickel or chrome?

My 1928 Packard 526 is one of the Nickel era cars. As polished nickel appears very similar to chrome but is less durable I would like to know if there are demerits in judging for use of chrome on a nickel era car?

Thanks for the info. I have already ordered the rubber alignment bumpers but have no cover to copy. The model A strikers are a couple of different sizes and screw hole spacings. For that reason, I would like an original Packard part to copy.
I would still like to purchase extras or borrow to make exact duplicates.
