Engine Rebuild 40 110
#91
Home away from home
Home away from home

SteveP516
After diagnosing a worn out six cylinder, I'm in the process of rebuilding the 110 motor. I've talked to the various vendors looking for the availability of parts and I think I'm in good shape there.
Where I'm struggling, is in trying the navigate the various Service Bulletins. Without having a dedicated service manual, I cannot find the spes that I'm looking for. I've referred to the Series 38 39 Shop Manual for reference only, but I would be more comfortable with the exact info before the machine shop starts.

I'm specifically looking for the dimensions/specs around the cam (are the lobes worn out?) and crank journals.

Can someone help navigate with what I'm looking for?
Any help would be greatly appreciated..........

Regards,
Steve P

40 Six Cylinder Engine Rebuild
#92

I have a conundrum regarding the next step of my 40 110 six cyl. engine. It is in tired and worn out. I've spent several hours researching forums looking for input about engine parts vendors and qualified machine shops for vintage engines. From what I gather, there is a wide range of opinions regarding quality from the various suppliers of parts,ie. pistons.

I would like to have the motor rebuilt without worrying about failure due to inferior parts or shoddy workmanship.
Does anyone have an suggestions for a good engine shop in the southeast that may be familiar with the Packard engine.
Thank for the input.

Regards,
Steve P

Steering Wheel Issue
#93

Hey Guys,
While driving my car, the steering wheel locked up. Upon further inspection, I found that a round plug that sits on top of the gearshift column had managed to come loose and get underneath the steering wheel. From input from others, I believe I'm missing some type of retainer spring.
Does anyone have an illustration that might depict what is actually there?
Thank you
Steve P

Does anyone know if the gentlemen in Vermont is still around repairing mechanical gauges for 1940 110?

Are there any other recommendations for a source?

Thanks everyone for the help.........

As a follow up it was indeed the NAPA parts
AL-63 for the Distibutor Cap and AL-62 for the rotor button.

Thanks again,

Apparently something has changed with the Napa cross reference. I gave my Napa guy the dist part number and he also came back with AL-59.
Definitely the wrong cap................

Dave,
I'm really confused now.
The distributor is an A-L IGC 4503, The cap is an A-L IGC 1107.
Ny Napa guy orders a AL-59 cap based on this info. This cap is much smaller than the original.
Your thoughts............
