Re: 1939 Chrysler Six Paint Code

Greetings !
You might be better off searching for an actual color match rather than a specific Packard color code.
The paint and body shop I've used has a catalog (a huge book)of every shade and hue of every color known to man (or so it seems) I did not have a paint code but by going through the colors and comparing them with what I was trying to match up, we found the exact match !
Just a thought, and hope it helps.
Best Regards,
TomB

'34 8, "Dip Stick"

Lost the Dip Stick during the re-build (I know, Big NO NO, but it happened !) So I'm desperately searching for a proper replacement. One issue I'm having is locating the proper Part Number for it. I've gone to page 12 in the Packard Parts Service manual, and I thought it would be there under Motor Oil Level Indicator, but the description sounds to me like a gauge and not the Dip Stick. My engine is #376170.
Could anyone solve my Part Number problem, and direct me to a good parts source?
Thank you,
TomB

Hi Flackmaster,
We'll sort of.....I want to keep the engine as original as I can, so we are going to stitch weld it (I think that is the term) and see what happens. We can't test it till the rebuild is complete and it's re-installed.
Did you find a good '33-'34 head ?

What would I do without all you guys having my back ?!
OD, you're right, it must be for a Su8 as the Length is "just slightly less than 35 inches" per the Seller.
The Seller''s father is coming into the shop tomorrow to see if he remembers anything of particular interest about head,, i.e. leaks, cracks, etc. Apparently he has a few cars of his own so may learn more at that time.
If everything seems on the up-n-up, I think I may buy it for re-sale or trade for my Packard 8 head.
Thanks again to you, Steve, and Packardbarry for the sleuthing and vetting on my behalf !
Regards,
Tom .

Packardbarry, Don't know how you did that but the gal I've been talking to and who gives her number as 314-346-816six mentioned that she works for a diesel engine shop.
Thank you ! We'll see.

OD,
Sorry to so late responding...just now checked emails before turning in.

I sent pictures to my mechanic and asked if the bolts match up with this new find and he said yes. But, the volume area in the head looked to be a bit greater.
How can I tell if this is indeed a Packard 8 head, or a Super 8 head ?

Steve, I think this is for real and I'm getting a shipping quote from them tomorrow, I'll know more tomorrow as it's almost 6PM back there. Again, thanks and I'll keep you posted.

Tom
