Re: Historic Packard Bridge Collapses

The incompetence of the City of Detroit for allowing such a dangerous structure to exist over a city street is criminal. What if someone was passing under the bridge when it collapsed and were killed.
Sad to see such a great monument to the auto industry and of PMC in particular to be allowed to decay in such a manner.

Has it been mentioned the Netflix movie "Carol " has many 40's and '50's Packards? The star of the show is a beautiful 1950 Custom or possibly a Super Deluxe with Ultramatic transmission, also several 47 Clippers and Super or Custom Clippers, several 48-50's and other later 1950's. Probably far more Packards than would have been seen at anyone time in comparison to other makes in that era. A slow paced movie but well acted and worth watching just to see the Packards.

I recall calling him one time about his engine paint. He was very helpful with his advice on how to apply the paint and the product was excellent. I was very pleased. He is a loss to the collector car community.l

Special Day in Canada Anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge

Tomorrow is a special day here in Canada. One hundred years ago tomorrow April 9, 1917 the four divisions of the Canadian Expeditionary Force (my grand father and one great uncle were participants), together for the first time began the battle to take Vimy Ridge from three well entrenched German divisions . The ridge was taken in three days of bitter fighting. Some are of the opinion that this was a defining event from which Canada emerged from being a colony of Britain to become an independent nation.
The attached is a story about the Vimy Oaks that will be planted at the site of what is perhaps the finest monument on the Western Front which commemorates the fallen from the 1st World War. I would not be posting this here except for the fact that in this illustrated article there is an illustration of a Packard.

Re: Beware the "restored car"

I recently heard about a 1966 Mustang for sale with the desirable K- Code engine. Sure enough the VI.N. was correct for a K code car. The car looked very nice from the topside as well with a nice paint job and interior. I looked underneath the car and could see nothing but rust. The floors had been replaced with new metal but poorly done as were the rear quarter panels and fenders. . The sub frames were rotted through in places and reinforced with welded on rebar . The car had been a 4 speed but was now an automatic powered by a more recent 302 engine. One must be very careful when looking at a so called restored car.

Kevin, My thermometer was showing -22F yesterday morning with windchill down in the minus thirties. I can also warm up my 20'x20' insulated garage with a 220V industrial heater in a short while although the meter wheel is spinning pretty fast! No new Packard to work on yet however but still looking. My 1947 Super Clipper is owned by a funeral home and occasionally gets used in the service. It resides in a heated garage!
