You are right, the length of the studs needs to be controlled - sometimes they stick out a little more - and the washer at the base is also critical.

It is also worthy to note that original Packard studs were not heat treated! The idea of using Stainless Steel is that the original look was closer to Nickel plating than to the Chrome that you see on most of our cars (at least the earlier models).

While I agree that the risk of torqueing to factory spec. is low, I don't agree with your comment that strength of steel has nothing to do with it. Try to do it with mild steel... I thought that I could get away with it just for initial tryout of the engine. They failed within 2 hours.

Thanks for the advice to go ahead though. I will do just that.

Hello,

I am installing stainless steel acorn head nuts on my super 8 engine. I believe that for standard steel the torque spec is 65 lbs/ft but I imagine that stainless steel having a higher tensile strength the torque spec should be adjusted down to achieve the same clamping force.

Can anyone tell me the spec for the stainless variety?

Many thanks for your input

Thanks again.

I have two but I suspect one is not original. A friend of mine in Canada has one and there was one at Hershey that sold 2 years ago by Dragone. This makes an amazing survival rate for 1933 Packard.

Many thanks for the info. I have decided to pass on this one but if someone is interested I can put you in contact with the seller. Just PM me.

@ Owen-Dyneto, can I abuse my welcome and ask you to look up the production numbers for a Super 8 1933 1004 coupe 2/4 passenger? If my memory serves me right it is body 758.

Thanks in advance

Hello,

This car is for sale close to my house. I believe it to be either a 37 or 38 Super Eight, maybe model 1604? I have not seen a lot of these and am wondering If anyone has production numbers for this model.

Enjoy the ride.

Hello,

Anyone would have a spare ignition switch for a 1933/1934? I think the part number was 210342.

Many thanks

Many thanks but I am puzzled as to where you have found the R.B.M. number? I checked the part book on page 168 and I get PN 209456 but do not see RBM.

I guess I will start inquiring around for model LS-600. Any idea as to what I have?

Thanks again

Wrong light switch?

Hello,

I am restoring 2 1933 Super 8 and bought 2 wiring harnesses. The first fitted great but now I am running into an issue with the second one. I suspect I may have a wrong switch (located at the bottom of the steering column) but I am not sure if I can use as is and just change the connections or if I need to locate another switch.

In the enclosed picture the drawing came with the wiring harness. The picture of the part is the one that I have that came with the car. Any help in identifying what I have would be great. Many thanks
