There are a few "young ones" out there. I am 38 now and have had Clara Belle (48 Deluxe Touring) for just over two years. When I got her she was parked in the back of a leaky damp warehouse and was being started with a pair of channel locks - yikes. I can not begin to describe how great it is to fix something, get it running and driving. Nothing makes me happier than taking her out for a drive with my wife, two sons (16 & 10 ) and dog - just got back from one.

Us young guys appreciate all the knowledge you share with us - thank you!

48 Striker Plate

Icescreamer
Hello, I am looking for a 48 deluxe touring front driver side striker plate. The one that is currently in place is very worn and bent. Before I reach out to Kanter, does anyone have one in their parts bin that they are willing to let go? Thank you!

Exhaust pipe flange gasket placement

Can someone confirm the correct installation/placement of the exhaust pipe flange gasket for a '48 288?

Does it simply sandwich in between the exhaust manifold and the exhaust pipe? There are no holes in the gasket to keep it in place.

I placed the one that came with the intake/exhaust gasket kit in between the exhaust pipe and the manifold and tightened down the flange to keep it in place. Either I didn't tighten properly or it wasn't centered as it ended up shifting after a number of miles and ultimately blew out.

Excuse my ignorance here, I feel silly asking, but I must be missing something. I am about to order a fresh one and want to make sure I do it right this time.

Thank you for any guidance.

I have purchased a number of kits/floats from Mikes and their customer service is great. They have a lot of awesome resources and videos that help guide you through the rebuild process.

If you have a question you can email them a photo and they will help point you in the right direction.

Never used them for a full rebuild however.
