Is it possible that the overheated engine caused the head gasket to fail?
Perhaps the cylinders became water logged and created a situation where the engine was cranked while it was hydro-locked. Thus bending valves?
More clues please...

Was at a swap meet and found a vendor with a fog lamp for sale.
Attached is a photo of it.
Is this correct for a nineteenth series 110?
Thanks for your assistance.
Tom

Mr. Kanter,
Please tell us more about the DuraGlass product to repair the bore pits.
By the way, I have overhauled a BTV unit in a '56 Mercury with a modified Y-block 312 engine. With regular maintenance, it performs as should.
People forget that these old girls need constant attention and feeding.
Thank you,
Tom

Anyone?
Should I post this in the "general discussion" part of the forum?
Thank you.

237 to 245 six cylinder interchange questions

I am interested in acquiring an available 237 engine from 1937 to install in place of my 245 engine in a 1941 110.
Would you happen to know if the flywheel from the '41 will bolt up to the '37 ?
The Packard parts manual shows a difference in part numbers.
I would like to use the '41 gearbox mated to the '37 block. Is it possible?
Any other pitfalls with this swap?
Thanks to all.
Tom

Found a 1937 237 6 cylinder engine locally.
Will this fit in place of a 1941 245 6 cylinder engine?
Hollander does not show an interchange compatibility for the '37 with '41, just 1937-1940 and 1941-1947....
O Packard gurus, what say ye?

Thank you for the reply.
Where are the cast numbers located on the transmission case?
Do they also cast a date code? How does Packard code their dates?
Just trying to educate myself, before an onsite inspection, as to positive verification. Sometimes sellers do not know what they have.

commercial transmission questions...

Hi all,
Was wondering if the gearbox ratios are different than the regular production vehicles. Would they be better built, material wise?
Would overdrive be an option for commercial applications?
Interested in a former hearse transmission from a junior circa 1940ish, sight unseen with unknown history. Was wondering if there was any identification marks, etc. to inquire about.
Thanks a bunch.

A DIY fix off the top of my head would be:
Add a center drilled hole at the end of the throttle shaft - a very small one. Not sure if the throttle pull is peened over onto the shaft or not, so observe and act accordingly. Then I would fabricate an adjustable vertical stanchion with a small centering cone mounted horizontally, to enter previously drilled throttle shaft.
Sounds like a challenging project, might be easier to send the carb out, in order to have the throttle shaft bores rebushed.
Good luck.
Tom
