Maybe it has been too long since I've looked at a 38 Super 8 but the spare tire area doesn't look right to me. It appears to have too much enclosed area area the spare tires. Am I completely off base with this or is it maybe that I'm used to seeing them in black?

On those 5 Packards, I'd love to be able to see them in his pictures. He shows us a bunch of mannequins, signs, and old parts but only shows a couple of cars.

They are selling, at auction, this Packard on November 7th at 6:30 PM in Jonesboro, AR. It comes with full documentation. According to the sales information, it is a 1939 Packard Super Eight Phaeton Derham. This is the link to the sales page.

I don't know about you but $205,000 seems a bit rich for my blood for a 1928 Packard even if it is a race car. Gene

I remember that show. They were showing four different groups of car guys in Texas that kept buying cars at auctions to fix up and sell. But, the work they did on the cars was usually minimal and any paint they sprayed was a really cheap spray job and not likely to last very long (kinda like those Maaco paint jobs I remember them advertising years ago).

I've seen the same thing with Chip Foose and a few others where they do really miracle work in a week or less. That just does not happen in the real world. At least some of the restoration shows they have on now, like the company in Canada, show you that it takes months, and sometimes years, to do them right.

Thanks for the memories and I agree with you completely!

This is a great idea. I'm in for part of it too. I'm not as rich as some of you guys out there since my health has gone south but I can go $25. The donation is on the way under "Donation for Kev's AC". I think that all of us here can donate at least $10 or $20 to this project and let any spare change go towards keeping the site up. I know that I'm on this site a few times every day just checking out the new posts.

Merry Christmas to everyone and I hope that you all have a blessed and safe holiday season.

JW, are you sure when you say 39? The rear of this one just does not look like a 39 to me. It looks much earlier. I'm sure you know much more about them that this humble beginner does but I've had a 39 (Super 8 until misfortune forced a sale) and the rear body work looked nothing the same. Gene

I talked to the man in Louisville with the 37 and he told me that the grill is gone and not just of the car, the interior is also missing, and it has the original 6 cylinder engine still in it. He also said that I'd need to put it on a different frame. Apparently the frame is rotted. He is not too far from me so I may take a look at it just to be sure but he really sounds like he knows what he is talking about. Gene

Before I would buy anything from him again I would want him to ship it to me to verify that it was correct and as described. If it were then I would call him and give him my CC number. Or if he was hard to catch, ask him to call me, after I had received it and verified it was as described, to get my number. The only other alternative would be to go there or have someone I trusted pick it up for me. It is sad to feel that way but my experience left a bad feeling with me about dealing with him.
