Installed a new Voltage Regulator and that fixed the issue. Thanks for everyone's input.

Thanks for the response. I have a new Voltage Regulator on order (since that is when the problem starting happening). If that does not fix it, I'll start looking at the Generator itself.

Thanks for the response. Yes, I did polarize the generator after I installed the new Voltage Regulator and hooked the battery back up.

I have a 1949 Super Eight with a 327 and I just installed a new Voltage Regulator. If the car has been sitting for a while (few days) and I start it up, the Voltage Regulator does not start working (i.e. Amp Gauge is showing discharge) for 1.5 to 2 minutes, then it starts working. If I turn off the engine, then restart it right away, the voltage regulator will still be working (i.e. Amp Gauge is showing charging). Then if I let the car sit until it is cold again, it does the same thing (does not work for a couple of minutes). Do I just need to get another Voltage Regulator or could there be something else going on? Thanks.

Thanks for the info. I'll give that a try and see what the readings are.

Thanks very much for taking the time to respond. This is all very good information. I am by no means an expert on carbs. What's the best way to check that the idle passages are clear? Also, I was definitely not getting 18-20 readings on the vacuum. It was more in the 13-14 range. Just to validate. I was hooking the gauge up to the port that's right by the idle jet screws.

Rough idle after rebuilding carb

Hello all,

I have a 1949 Packard with a 327. I recently rebuilt the carb and now after it warms up, it idles really rough (to the point of quitting). When driving, it seems to run fine. It is just at idle after warming up. I have adjusted the low idle jets with a vacuum gauge attached and I think it should be close there. I was wondering if it could be the metering rods. Unfortunately, I did not mark where those were originally set when I took it apart. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Also, the carb is a Carter WGD.

Does anyone know how many 1949 2382 Super 8 Touring Sedan's were produced? The numbers on the site include all model 2302's (which is 8,565) and it is not broken down by Model. Thanks.
