When checking the timing I had my helper press on accelerator and the mark advanced with acceleration, so I'm assuming the vacuum advance is working. Would you assume the same?

Thanks PackardV8. I'll try your suggestion although it will probably be this weekend before I get a chance. I will repost will the results. I don't think it would be the condenser as it had this issue before and after replacing condenser.

question about engine losing power

Hi. I'm having an issue with my '51 200. When I hit about 35-40 mph the engine bogs down and loses power. then if I let off the gas and slow down I can accelerate again until about 35-40 and it does it again. It feels to me like its not getting fuel. Things I have done: new plugs, plug wires, points/condenser, rotor, dist. cap., coil, all things that needed replaced anyway. Electric fuel pump was added about a year ago. It's getting good spark, timing is correct, fuel to carb. At this point I am assuming it's something in the carburetor, which of course is the one thing I don't feel comfortable messing with. The carburetor was rebuilt about a year ago with the ethanol safe kit from max merritt. no issues after the rebuild. Anyone have any suggestions on where to go from here. Thanks for any info.

Brakes pulling

Please forgive me if this has been covered before, but I've perused the forum a bit and haven't found anything. On my 1951 200, the brakes are pulling to the right quite a bit. It just started a few months ago, with no changes by me. Less than two years ago, I put in new wheel cylinders, new master cylinder, new lines, and new shoes. I have tried adjusting the brakes on each wheel numerous times with no results. Not sure where to go next. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for the ideas fellas. Howard-I never considered that it might be the hose or housing neck, but that could very well be the problem. Like yours, the neck on the housing is a little rough and corroded. The coolant is pooling around the lip of the housing and I assumed it was coming up around the threads. Tomorrow I will wrap something absorbent around the end of the hose to verify whether that is where it is seeping from.

1951 288 coolant leak

Hello everyone. I'm getting a little frustrated with an issue im having with my Packard leaking coolant at the thermostat housing. It's not leaking around the housing itself, but is seeping up around the back bolt holding the housing down. I'm assuming I must have a small crack in the casting in the head that the bolt threads into. I have tried sealing the bolt threads with various things, but after having it off and back together half a dozen times, it is still leaking. It doesn't seem to leak while the engine is running, but after it is shut off. It's only a minor leak, and nothing that prevents me from driving the car, but it's driving me nuts. Short of replacing the head, does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for the good info Drew. You are right about no oil filter. My car was never equipped with one. My idle speed may be set a little high also, so I may play around with that.
