Does a 48 model have a casting date like this on the block ? Thanks

Yes. I don't know about the very early (pre 1920 or so) Packards but all the years I'm familiar with have casting dates.

I would think most all the engine castings must have had some kind of date for quality purposes. Packard V8 posted a photo of an engine which appears to have a 10-11-48 casting number. The other number on his looks to be 122 instead of your 55. No idea what that second number is but maybe some kind of reference to the master pattern they used to make the sand mold or maybe the actual sequence number in the line of engines that was cast that day??

Yes, this "48" number looks like the same type of marking. I'm not sure what the "55" is either..

I believe it does Have the same casting number scheme based on what I've learned.
