39 110 Coupe in MT

A friend of mine in a small town close to Billings has just finished the restoration of his 39 110 coupe. It is painted white with olive green wheels. The car is unusual to me in that it is a six with banjo wheel, radio (working!), clock, heater and Goddess of Speed hood ornament. He has had this car since 1969, and has done all of the work himself except for paint and upholstery. I did the dash woodgraining. The interior is done with SMS fabric.

The theft proof numbers as 476416, and the serial number is 1285-2307. The dealer did not stamp the plate as to delivery date and location. I'll post some photos in a few minutes.

photos - note the correct water line for the heater, unlike the one on my 39!

Hey, David, Thanks for sharing the photos of that 39 Six. Since I have one too, although a sedan, and since I hardly every see on I enjoy the opportunity.

Please elaborate on the "correct heater tube". It's been my understanding that the correct tube is a copper tube, which is what I have seen many times. However, I am good at being wrong.

I am wondering why the metal data plate is mounted on the firewall instead of on the driver's side cowl. Again, I may be wrong about that.

Very nice looking car, inside and out. By the way, that radio and speedometer look familiar.

Regarding the accessories, each of the items you listed is in the 1939 Accessories catalog, but to your point, would be most seldom seen on a six.

Pat

David, you may regret posting that you did the dash woodgraining. It is beautifully done. Both you and your friend should be very very proud of this car.

Lynn's car has the correct copper tube from the water pump to the heater. My 39 120 has a floppy rubber hose which is what I was grousing about. I asked Lynn about the mounting of the data plate also - he said it was there when he bought it some 45 years ago. I'm usually the orphan judge on the all original car show in Billings, so I'll have to ding him on that!

Thanks for the comments on the wood graining. I enjoy doing it.

The one problem Lynn has is the right hand window crank is stripped. Anyone have a spare one? I check with the Flackmaster but no luck. Lynn does have a spare NOS one, but it is the 16" arm model, rather than the 14" version.

I guess you mean the window regulator? If so you might try Regulator Roy:

Hi

What an elegant coupe! He's to be congratulated for doing a fine job restoring this gem.

Folks driving in new white 110 coupes must have cut quite a figure in those days. Although Buick Special, Chrysler Royal, Studebaker Commander, Nash Ambassador and Hudson Commodore were nice cars in their own right, the buying decision would have been an easy one once they looked over and drove a 110.

I agree a handsome ar, but I don't think anybody drove a "new white" 110 - I don't think white was offered. "Ivory" is I believe light yellow. Someone who knows the 39's better can clarify
