finished driver's side up to 4000 grit...blugh.

now doing the passenger's side, up to 1000 grit at the moment. the end is nigh. thank God!

oh wait....then I have to polish....GAH! AAAHH!!!!

I had to have some mechanical break so I took apart the heater blower motor so I could send the housing in for sand blasting and powder coating. the fan part was a total PITA to get off and will be a miracle if it works right when I put it back together. oh well....it was more fun taking it apart then sanding clear coat. had to use an air hammer/chisel to push the dang fan off the motor. to get the chisel to sit in the center I had to drill a bevel in the end of the shaft. it would NOT come off. I had to get it off so I could open up the motor to replace the wiring. motor is good, wiring was gone to the pits.

so many parts are being powder coated, all under hood piece related to mounting the fenders and the heater/fresh air tubes, etc.

also happy birthday to my little man, 6 years old. birthday cake sundae at Braums! YAY!

He's got those 6 yr old teeth I see. Probably too much ice cream!

I tried to get the fan off my motor too and gave it up, couldn't budge it and I didn't want to break anything. Now I am going to use a 12v fan assy but I have thought about trying to disassemble it too because of the old wires. I think I'm just going to put heat shrink on them and trust to luck.

Thinking further, if yours is fubar when you go back together there must be a motor that would fit from Grainger or someplace. It would be nice to know the rpm that it is supposed to run though, to find a good replacement unit.

I bought a 2 piece shaft collar that was as close as I could find to the hub diameter. It would clamp on and was snug but was still a bit too loose for a tight fit. I ground down both sides at the splits so it could clamp very tightly and then used a small ordinary 2 jaw gear puller under the collar. It was still a project but the corrosion or whatever inside the bore finally loosened and wheel came off.

I doubt you will find a suitable motor at Graingers but there are several of the other brand vendors selling universal 6v heater motors. I picked up one from a Ford guy. Downside to those is the appearance is different from the Packard motor.

actually the motor worked before I took it apart. I'm just one of those people that like to take thing apart and see how they work and give them a good overhaul and put them back together. I snipped the wires on the inside and i'll solder new ones on and run them through the case again.

plus it had been months since I did anything mechanical on the car and I was having withdraws.

my only concern will be the balance of the fan when I put it all back together. I had to grind down the shaft from it being peened a bit and then I had to drill the hole in the fan some. its a bit loose now when I slide it back on. I may have to build the shaft back up and grind till I get a good fit. even if it is a bit wobbly...oh well...I wont be using the heat too much in Texas.

On another note, I forced myself to do 2000, 3000, and 4000 grit sanding on the passenger's side last night. now all that is left is the 3 stages of polishing on both sides and i'm done! WOOHOOOOO!!!

loving that floating water look on the car. looks like I can just dive into the fender and go for a swim.

laid out all the stainless trim and counted up the holes and looked at what clips I had taped to the trim. this is what I came up with as for what type of clips go where on constellation. hopefully it makes sense to you and maybe be helpful for someone in the future.

the clips that are puncturing anywhere into the interior of the car would need a rubber washer and nut or sealant. use common sense here. you don't water in your car.

I plan to go to a local clip/trim shop near me on Friday and see what he has, but I did have some from Max that came with the NOS lower constellation trim I got from JW many moons ago. the spring clips worked well to replace the old ones. didn't have an wire clips though. the two small ones came from JW too....but for the life of me I cant find where they would go. I need to look up the part number supplied and find out, unless someone just happens to know.

can anyone tell me if I'm missing something to hold that red clipper symbol that flips out. if I pull on it...it just pops right off and I have to rewind the spring and etc. it just seems like there should be something to hold it on so it doesn't just fall off from vibration or whatever.

found the clips in the parts manual. the two black ones are confusing me though...manual does say 2 of them...but the ones supplied look way too small to fit the trim.

the description seems weird...wheel opening rear.....so I guess that is the piece that goes from the opening to the back of the car. if that is the case...there are 5 clips there, not 2.

oh well...i'm just gonna put something works on it and move along.

Hank, pleased to see the NOS lower trim is going on the Constellation. Fred sent me what he had in clips for the trim saying he did not have them all. That car is going to look great, can't wait to see it.

here is an updated diagram with outlines of the clips. they are marked by letter where they go and the number.

I think I included extra of the B clips just incase and to round off the number. idk, just felt like I should for some reason. went with my gut.

the (12) should be added to the 20. I already had the 12, so I subtracted from the original number to get 20 that were needed in my application.
