Don't know if I'm correct on this but since the individual rollers are caged, I'd say they are not technically needle bearings.

While you're in there you probably should undertake the adjustments for the motor armature end-play and friction (anti-hunting) clutch - these are well-described in the shop manual.
If you to pull the motor off and remove the armature, be prepared for a lot of frustration getting the brushes back into position on the commutator - wouldn't do it unless it's absolutely essential. The best videos of the unit in operation on an original Packard test panel are those by Mr.Pushbutton who does impeccable repair and improvement to these units, better than done by the OEM. Just about everyone I know with a PB unit either has a Mr. Pushbutton unit installed, or in the trunk waiting for the inevitable day when it will be needed.

I removed the PB power unit from my 56 Exec about a month ago.
Completely disassembled the power unit EXCEPT i did not remove the armature from the worn gear. Left the armature and worm drive intact in the housing. With brush end plate and motor housing removed i found that the brush retainer screws in the end cap were poorly installed. I have absolutely NO REASON whatsoever to suspect that this unit was ever disturbed after it left the factory. So i sincerely doubt that the brush holder screw installation was the work of any service technician. I also found some rather peculiar kind of almost hardened putty like substance in the armature. I'm guessing it is some kind of a balance thing but i don't know. NOT the first electric motor i've ever had aapart and never seen such putty like application (see pic). I haad very little trouble getting the brushes over the commutator. However the unit was removed and was a bench operation which i'm sure made the brush/end cap installation alot easier.

As a side note:
THose of u rebuilding T-Ultras w/PB need to carefuly consider modifying the selector shaft 'bushing' boss in the trans to allow the shaft to be pushed toward the RIGHT side of the car. To allow easy removal of the PB power unit. If the selector shaft can be pushed toward the right side of the car then removeal of tailshaft housing would not be necessarry.
