Well guys, ive been the owner of my police car for several months now, and i decided to start a project blog.

I bought my car from a local Fraternal Order of Police after overhearing an unknown man at a local car show.

It is mechanically original, but it no wears the paint of a police car, with DARE decals. A different police department many miles away added the decals and planned to use it as a parade car. However, the DARE program was not as well recieved as they had hoped, and the car was parked in the city impound lot for over 10 years. It was then traded to a different police department, where it sat for three more years, before it was traded to the department where i bought it.

The two officers in charge of the car were overjoyed that I was going to buy it and were thrilled to hear I would restore it as a police vehicle.

In the glove compartment, tucked inside the owners manual, i found a hanwritten letter adressed to a packard club in California.

The writer of the letter, and owner of the car was/is named Jay Quigly of Hartford Connecticut. If anyone has any information on this gentelman or his car, please inform me, i would like to know.

Not all of the equipment you listed guscha. Out of the relatively limited info i have been able to aquire, it was a chiefs car, or upper ranking police officers car. for example, the back door handles are still in place, and there was no spotlight. the rotating light is fully functional, as is a siren. i added the siren that is there now, but there is evidence that there was another siren that was mounted in place of the currently absent heater blower.

I have been catching flack online (not here) because most people think i am a fool because it is not a stripped down patrol car.I have been informed i am wasting my time with a "black and white" restoration. I feel though, that since i bought the car from a police dpt, and it has been in various police depts for all of its know history, that it is a police car.

Mike,

Looking forward to following your blog on the Pat police car.

And one question: What is D.A.R.E?

cli55er, that is friggen great!

and thanks for the support guys!

My car was being stored behind a horse barn, and was destined for a crusher. it still started fine and drove and steered and stopped. it ran rough, and that was solved with new sparkplugs. The car had come up to auction 3 times and had never had one bid.

The officers involved were extremely happy to see it restored instead, and i have been requested to drive it for several parades next spring!

Is it:

DARE -- Dachshund Adoption, Rescue and Education

Just thought it was funny as it came up on the above Google listing.
