1930 wire wheel question

According to the Service Parts Liat 1930-32, there are two types of wire wheels used on a 1930 740 or 745. One is 19"x 5" base (used with 6-1/16" hub shell cover) and the other is 19"x 5" base (used with 7-1/2" hub shell cover). I'm trying to determine which of these I have, but I'm not sure exactly what a "hub shell cover" is. Neither am I certain what the "base" refers to. I wonder if someone here can enlighten me. The upshot of all this is I'm wondering if I could use a wire wheel for 1931 or 1932 on this car. They are also 19" x 5" base, but the parts list does not give hub shell cover options like for the 1930, so they must have only one size hub shell cover, and I'd need to know what size that is.

News to me, but then I seem to learn something every day. I'm guessing the shell cover is basically the chromed cover that fits in the center of the wheel where the hub protrudes. I did not know there were two different sizes for 1930, other than the smaller series used a 20-inch wheel while the larger series used the 19-inch wheel.

Thanks to everyone for their input. Now, I think I know the answer. 19" x 5" base refers to the outside diameter of the wheel and the width of the wheel where the tire mounts, respectively. The hub shell cover surrounds the actual hub cap on a wire wheel, filling the gap between the cap and the inside part of the wheel where the spokes attach. Turns out mine is the 6-1/16" version. Below is a photo of a hub shell cover off a '29 wire wheel. Looks like they dropped the hub shell cover in 1931 in favor of the new style pop-on "hubcap" which actually covers the hub itself as well as the space between the hub and the inside of the wire wheel. Thus it doesn't appear that a '31 or '32 wire wheel will work out.

Mike,

According to the Model info pages for the '32 V12's their wheels are 18" x 7.5".

Yes, completely different wheel on the 1932 V12. Deluxe 8 still seems to take the 19" that year, while Regular 8 and Light 8 both have 17" wheels. Looks like all models in 1931 had 19".
