Once you receive the knob, how about posting a photo of the knob and if you can, a shot of the wiper motor where it connects. That way there will be a reference for the next person who might need info.

Further to Howard's suggestion and with many thanks to the Flackmaster for coming up with the control knob, and all those who inputted, here are a couple of photos of the wiper motor and the 'exact '39-appropriate knob', showing the knob lever connecting with the motor linkage. Much to my surprise, once turned on, the wipers worked perfectly!!! Many thanks again for the help!
