As a life-long Packard owner (a least since the mid-'60s when I bought my first as a teenager), I must say that the Lincoln Capri was a nice looking car. The problem was that it looked very much like the 1952 to 1954 Ford models on which it is based while Packard and the Packard Clipper looked like nothing else. They were their own so clearly stood out.

Just a lame and lazy magazine article to compare a Lincoln 2-door hardtop with a Clipper 4-door sedan. As all here know, they should have used the Clipper hardtop, as it is a very different looking car than the sedan.

With the Torsion Level suspension option, the Clipper is a far superior luxury car. With overdrive and set up for the drag strip, it was also a faster/quicker competitor than the Lincoln.

A bit OT, but there's a Clipper hardtop sitting in front of a wrecking yard fifty miles from here. Now the snow is gone, I'll try for a photo.

(Don't tell anyone, but just as a styling exercise, I prefer the Lincoln.)

Don't forget the 52 -54 lincoln's were road racing the Carrera Panamericana race in Mexico. Did pretty well also.I know Ford had a lot more money to spend than Packard.

Did not like the placement of the battery of the Lincoln, under the right floorboard.
