Thanks Jason! I agree with you on the Meguiars #7, it is really great stuff for old single stage paint. I used it on my '54 Studebaker since the paint job is an old early '70s repaint.

I'm amazed at the shine you brought back on the car. Would never have thought that paint would come back that well.

My Pleasure Paul and thanks for taking the time to look and comment.

My work and technique aside, this really is a testament to the amazing quality of the paint. I have worked on the paint of at least 200 vehicles and this Packard paint is exceptional - to be able to withstand the neglect it experienced to then have me go at it hard and heavy blows me away!!!

Here are some pics from this weekends progress with comparison shots

The roof which I had no hope for! two 50 / 50 shots - the left (or upper) side of each image is yet to be done. The top image is when I first started this project, the bottom Image is the current state

Harold: If you are interested in knowing what paint I used for the trunk emblem, I used Duplicolor MetalCast but again, the reason the colors are so vibrant even through the plastic is a result of the plastic being polished so that it is clear

Wow! I am very impressed about how you were able to clean it up, and bring new life to that paint that looked neglected for decades. Very cool, I will be interested to see more pics as you complete the whole car.

I made some progress on the bonnet I had absolutely zero hope for being able to bring back any of the color due to frequent heat and cool cycles and I was right but, where was wrong is that I didn't expect to be able to restore any luster or shine to this panel. In this photo the left side is complete and the right side still needs the final polishing stop and wax

I learned that the 51 didn't have a grill mounted crust but mine has what appears to be three holes used for mounting the crest can any one confirm if that's what these holes are for

I've been following this work which is quite impressive! Can hardly wait to see it finished. As an FYI, your grill is 1952 as it has the holes for the emblem that was not used in 1951.

Hi Jason75, thanks for taking the time to detail your work and techniques. The interesting final finish goes a long way to preserve and display the original color and by removing the rust leaves a nice presentation and panache that gives the almost 70 year old Packard a vibrancy with character. Well done.
Regards
