Car looks to be in very nice condition overall and a stick with OD means the engine is about the most expensive thing you would need to worry about as far as repairs go. Obtaining a good used engine from Ross or rebuilding yours should provide lots of trouble free miles.

"I have a 53 Packard Clipper with a 288 that just gave out."

Hi

When you say "just gave out" what exactly does that mean. Please tell us in detail what happened that lead you to this conclusion.

Car ran low on oil about 3 years ago and mechanics evaluation was that it would need to be rebuilt. The bearings were rattling pretty good but 50 weight oil did quiet them down some and it could be driven short distances around town although did not drive it much at all. Recently took it in for 2nd opinion to see if possibly doing just lowers might buy me a few more years of short town trips but they said it would need rebuild as well. When i was driving it home, it made a noise and shut down so assuming they were both correct!

Anyway, i do not have the ability to work on myself so looking at my options.

The car itself is in pretty good shape.

Any advice/insight is welcomed and appreciated.

Hi Brad

Thanks for telling us what ails your engine. You've come to the right place to get it fixed, there isn't anything that's not known about Packards here.

You might check with PAC or PI region club members in your area for resources to get the engine rebuilt or swapped if that's what you decide is best.

Good luck and please start a project blog to post your questions and find answers easily. I wouldn't give up on your Clipper.

Steve
