WOW, what a creature!! Am I seeing it correctly, the nose, hood ornament, hubcap on front seat and bumpers appear to be ZIS 110, balance of the body appears to be an earlier (1938?) senior Packard? Spacing between the brake and clutch pedals, and cane shift shape suggest non-Packard driveline? I'm anxious to hear more about this one, clearly a Russian/American mongrel!

1942 180 Packard upholstery material was a pure wool broadcloth. Best source is probably Hirsch Auto in Newark, NJ.

UPDATE: Photo taken some years ago by this writer of the ZIS 110 hood ornament on Johann Berg's restoration project.

A lot of this vehicle is Russian ZIS 110, but there are other things, like Owen said, that appear to be genuine Packard. The rear trunk rack is obviously Packard. And I will have to look in my records to see if a ZIS 110 ever had a rear backlight split pair of windows like this one has.

I have a friend in Sweden with a ZIS 110, but his car has 6 "whisker" strips rather than the 5 shown here. Also my friend's ZIS 110 has a completely different steering wheel and meter cluster, rear window... and tail lights.

Also looks like a lightning bolt or a Star Wars laser hit the top of the left-hand rear fender!

I know both the ZIS 110 and ZIL 111 had detail changes over both of their lifespan runs. However, this one does not fit the images I have saved over many years. So, an odd hybrid duck it appears to be.

A limo (with divider) would usually have plain leather in front and broadcloth in the back

Yipes! This ZIS 110/Packard mash-up might be titled "necessity is the mother of invention".

Note the Packard body has crank vent windows, suggesting it was an upper series chassis that contributed its body. As Don will note, it has the trim above the windshield indicating its a 1938 body.

Anyone recognize that blue fastback sedan in the background, Moskvitch? Skoda?

Steve

Proud 1953 Clipper Deluxe owner. Thinking about my next Packard, want a Clipper Deluxe Eight, manual shift with overdrive.

Might be the long lost "MISSING LINK" between Packards and ZIS/ZIL?

Appears to be a 1602 body with a ZIS front clip and bumpers. As for the chassis, no identifying characteristics, so its either a body swap, or a front clip swap. Interesting, or frightening...

Hmmm. Earlier I was called on the carpet for some imagined subtle distinction between "lot of ZIS" and "some ZIS". Not sure what that was all about (actually I AM sure what it was about) but I'll just say and show a bit more on this matter.

While I certainly do not proclaim to be a ZIS or ZIL or Chaika world class expert, I have been collecting information and photos and other items on these cars since the 1950s. I certainly don't know everything about them, but I do know one when I see it. And I know a Packard when I see one.

And while I never said in any of my postings that this vehicle is a ZIS, I have always suspected it is a ZIS chassis and front clip with a Packard body sitting kittywhampus on the frame. I guess "lot of ZIS" and "some ZIS" being stated has some high importance, even if that importance is not empirically obvious.

Anyway just to show I do have just a pittance of knowledge on the subject. Here is just a sampling of photos, news clippings and a Russian book I have in my collection of ZIS and ZIL items...

After the first unsuccessful attempt, now the second try. Thanks BigKev!

My dear fellow Mal (Ozstatman), after seeing the pics from Maurice (momo), I was in the belief to be released from the duty. At the risk of boring you, I will -> return to this crossbreed of doubtful origin. Before answering to "which car is it" I would like to clarify, what is it not.

No, just some few parts. Dave's (O_D's) list is exhaustive.
The pics were taken 8 years ago in Dagestan, a federal subject (a republic) of Russia, located in the North Caucasus Region [Wikipedia].

Dave (O_D), a mongrel, how true! While chassis and body are Packard debris, the engine and gearbox come from a GAZ-53, a Russian 3.5 tonne 4x2 truck.
Please find attached annother pics of this car, taken in 1997.
