Mal, my pleasure! A couple of years ago this bone weary shaddow of its former self was offered for sale as a 1938 model. That seems to confirm the suppositions related to its build year.

Quote:
...appears to be an earlier (1938?) senior Packard... [Dave (O_D)]
,
Quote:
...the trim above the windshield indicating its a 1938 body... [Steve (58L8134)]
,
Quote:
...Appears to be a 1602 body...* [David (flackmaster)]

* Only in 1938 the 1602 body was offered.

The seller mentioned a "body number" too: 445826.

The above mentioned body number is a six-digit figure. Dave, (O_D), correct me if I'm wrong but the Briggs body tag for Packards started in 1941 and the vehicle-number from the patent plate has another design, so 445826 could be its thief-proof number.

As a theft-proof number, 445826 is within the range of numbers for 1938.

Dave (O_D), thanks.

Quote:
A limo (with divider) would usually have plain leather in front and broadcloth in the back

bkazmer, even a passing view into the passenger compartment of this chimera reveals the deep sadness of an usual career in the -> "workers' and peasants' state". The broadcloth is long gone. Today curtain fabric of cheapest quality and linoleum dominate the scene.

That, BY FAR, is both the saddest and most hysterical interior I have ever seen in ANY car.

Roger, to brace oneself for the worst is a good strategy when the discussion turns to survivors of the Soviet empire. Don't tempt me to undercut the quality, I have more pictures of creatures like this, born in dark canyons between Romania and Sino-Tibetan villages.
It reminds on bone fragments, to see the one or another Packard metal part protrude from this psychedelic orgy of linoleum and color-coordinated cover material.
The design of the hand crank for the devider window confirms the 1938 model (please see the last pic below, that shows a crank from a 1938 Packard 1601).

Steve (58L8134), that's a Gaz-M20 Pobeda (Victory), made in CCCP from 1946 until 1958 after stem cell donation from the German Opel Kapit?n. To quote Wikipedia: "The pre-war Kapit?n featured a unitary body, an innovative feature for its time; it was studied by the Soviet engineers and heavily influenced the design of the GAZ-M20 Pobeda."
