Was struggling with what to do about a gas tank. Didn't want the agony of altering the filler neck and mounting to accommodate the reduced body height and shorter rear overhang. Also didn't want a gas door on the side of the car. A friend suggested a Mustang gas tank. This mounts through the floor, holds 16 gallons (close enough to original) and comes with a sender with the same ohm range as the Packard. For $129 shipped to my door.

Well that saved some of the rust repair on the trunk floor. I made an angle iron frame to catch it. Will work out the filler neck to be accessed by tilting the continental spare.

Also got around to inverting the trunk hinge mountings as there is no longer space above the wheel wells.

This is great, its akin to watching the build process for the Pan Americans.

Got a major piece of work done: The recess into the trunk lid and rear valence to mount a close coupled continental spare. Will start on the spare's mount tomorrow.

Got the mount for the spare fabricated. The tire mount pivots down low and the spare needs to move out only a few inches at the top to clear the trunk as it opens. An old piece of Packard steering column provided the necessary heavy walled tubing. Then went on to make the two little bumper pans and mount them to the body.

Next up for the sake of an attactive visual to keep motivation, I worked up the wheel configuation. 1978 Chrysler aluminum wheel (dished like the disk wheels of the twenties), plus a 50 Ultramatic turbine, plus a 61 Lark poverty horn button ring, plus a 57 Clipper horn button.

Still need to work out the trunk latch--the tool box is holding the lid down for the photos.

The next chapter will be working out all of the details for the grill. When that is completed there will be a trip to Philly to the platers.

Got the trunk latch and continental latch all worked out and dressed up the back of the car a bit for motivation.

Out front, many of the engine compartment details are worked out including remote air filter with cold air intake, fan shroud, trumpet horns and splasher. Wow, things sure do take time.

Lastly, the grill ensemble featuring a full depth center partition and '62 Lark grille meshes. Feel free to weigh in on which bumper arrangement you favor: '51 or '53 with the bridge. In either case, will probably mount the bumper 1" higher so the fogs are just peeking over the edge and the grille is a tad less prominent.

Is bumperless an option? Or split bumper front so that grille sticks out better?

If not.

Bottom pic looks like it's buck toothed
