These illustrations recently came my way. They present styling ideas much different than was produced. They are from a car design museum site: www.moaad.org.

The '41 concept is titled "Al Ott 1941, gouache on watercolor paper, 11x23".

The 1952 concept is titled "Van Deventer, 11/23/52, color pencil over photostat paper, 13x30".

The 55 concept is titled "circa 1950, Robin
Jones, color pencil over Photostat paper, 8x10".

Hi

Thanks for posting these, I love seeing design work for Packard as well as all makes.

Most interesting is the Robin Jones concept, who moved on to Ford after his Packard years. I see '55-'56 Mercury overall, minus details such as the center grille division and 'dagmars', also '56 Lincoln headlight brows.

The link doesn't work for me, perhaps it's my old browser?

Looking at the Robin Jones illustration for a '55 I read "Mercury" on the front of the car. No wonder Steve found so much Mercury and Lincoln in it. Good eyes, Steve.

Hello JW,

You posted those renderings 10 years ago and I thought I would give you and update.

That 1952 rendering by Van Deventer is part of the Walter Miller Automobilia Collection Part 1 auction by Eagles Corp International set for May 19 - Lot # 178.

Opening bid is $700 with an auction estimate of $1,400 to $2,500. There is a 30% bidders' premium.

30% eh. The most crooked corporate run casinos don't get 30%. The most crooked front end loads on Wall Street aren't near 30%. I have seen some crooked annuity policies with 30% in the front end, but at least nothing in the back end. Only soda pop and bottled water are a bigger rip off.

Maybe they should put that stuff an junkbay and get an honest deal.

It may be stated with the art that the Caribbean here is 1955, but it is quite obviously a 1956 Caribbean.
? Dagmars on a 1955 are not under the headlights
? Grille is 1956 type, not 1955 type
? Scoops are 1956 type, 1955 are higher and heavier with more pronounced fairings.
? Headlights are deeply hooded, 1955 type were not.
? And colors appear to be 1956 colors.
