Miight grab a 3 speed OD

There is a 52-54 Packard in a bone yard which has the OD trans in it and I have considered grabbing it for fun & profit.
Well, not so much fun, I know it is a project.
What is the market these days? Have not seen many priors and I would hate to do all that work & be stuck with it.
Your thoughts?

Is it a passenger car or commercial chassis? Of course, its value would depend not only on its external appearance (rusty or badly corroded) but also on completeness (solenoid, governor etc) and whether it is usable or needs a rebuild. If the latter is unknown, then it should be priced accordingly.

When the Packard crowd was younger, that is, in their sixties, I used to do a fair number of OD conversions. That was 25 years ago. I still have at least 3 left. No one asks anymore.

Still, somehow it is handy to not let such a thing get away if you can get the car at a good price. Remember you need to get every single component all the way down to the pedals and pedal shaft, steering column, pumpkin driveshaft etc etc.

Amen to what Ross is saying. It is no fun trying to chase up Packard OD bits... Good luck. Peter Toet

Regarding Ross' post, I think the drive shaft looks pretty good but about the other bits...Is the column different than a straight stick?, peddles,Z bar?

No, the column isn't different than a regular non-overdrive system but it IS different from an Ultramatic and it is from that that people seem to want to convert.

The whole car? God, NO.
Thought about the gearbox though. I was surprised to see the front clip removed recently and then left some feet away. Maybe someone was going to make yard art from it?
PM your needs, if I should return, I could check it out. The car is 2 1/2 hours from me, been sitting for 40-50 years in Central WI.
