1938 Packard engine parts enquiry

Hi All

Could you please give me a little help, based in the UK it's not easy contacting anyone here that's supposed to be part of the "Packard owners club" and the parts I need I assume will come from the states so............

My engine number is A500227 which means it should be a 1938 16th series 320, 8 cylinder and 130 HP Super Eight.

The raised markings on the block are 239768 and 8-18-37.

However, my engineer has established that it has a 3.25 bore and 5" stroke so it looks like it might have been bored out a bit.

The parts I need are:
Valve guides
A full gasket set
Possibly an oil pump unless there's a service kit available.
A set of valves.
Collets/cotters/retainers for the valves.
A timing chain and gears
A set of pistons.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for a supplier?

Cheers
Simon

I've got a NOS timing chain and a shipment going to a Packard friend in London next week. I can put a head gasket in the box, and maybe some other stuff.

A bit more about your project?

this is a 38 Eight(120) 282" 3 1/4 BORE engine as can be seen by cast iron crankcase and side distributor. The super Eight has an aluminum crankcase and a distributor mounted in the middle of the cyl head. I have no idea how # came to be a super 8 320??? although that's what the chart seems to say. All parts are different between the engines.

We have all the parts you need, must know bore or overbore in inches

Thanks

James,

I believe the pic's in Simons initial post above are of a Six monobloc engine taken from the Serial Number Reference Table in the Literature and Manuals section on this Website and not of his actual engine.

Might prove advantageous if Simon could provide pic's of his actual engine to help nail down the its identifcation.

Whoa! Just went back and had a look at Simons intial post on PackardInfo, this one!

The engine number he quotes in that thread is a different number to the one in this thread. and the Engine number cited here is cited as the Body number in that thread!

It seems Simon has a "bitzer" on his hands, a bit of this and a bit of that etc. Simon needs to nail down the identification of his engine, including the Engine Number, before going any further to ensure he gets the correct parts required.

Hi All

Many thanks for all of your replies, please ignore what I wrote in my earlier enquiry about age related registrations.
I saw the engine for the first time in over a year yesterday and can confirm that the stamped engine number is A500227, I have attached a photo and will follow with further photos.
The cylinders are 3.25" with a 5 inch stroke.
Cheers
Simon

38-320. Serial number and Angles on the cylinder block confirmed. Curious as to your plan for big end rod bearings?
