Thanks, Gerd. Assume the third lens is for the turn signal & Soviets followed European standard? After seeing all the efforts Mal's friends go through to add turn signals with a separate lamp to their Packards, am curious if other countries besides US allow for turn and brake to be the same light?

No, I haven't been east of Vienna, but I've heard of it, it is bigger than our Philadelphia for example, and I was aware of what happened to Nicholas & family there.
ZIL did a good job on the tail light design, apparently the plastic left something to be desired, but then so did many plastics of the time!

I've never been to any European nor Eastern EC countries. Curiosity gets the best of me.

Over the years and across many sources i've seen numerous pictures taken in the EC by personal photography. I've noticed that the background landscaping and trimming of foliage is usually left rather full grown.

Is this a cultural difference between the US and EC???

In the US it is generaly expected and practiced that home and bussiness owners mow lawn and trim tall grass at least once every 10 days, more like once a week in most cases. Trim trees and shrubs once every 6 months to 3 years at least.

Personaly, i prefer the full grown look. But I am one of the very few exceptions here in US.

And what about Oz ????

Not sure its a cultural differents, maybe a question of different tastes on this subject(some people like weeds growing in there gardens)..but what do I know

My Packard lenses did not tend to shrink, or the steering wheels, but cracking and fogging is common, I guess as the plasticizer chemicals dried out.

I think Americans like to mow grass because so many are only a generation or 2 removed from the farm

Looks like the old WW II veterans where right, ZIS-5 (on the second picture) can go throw earth,wind and fire.
Maybe I would have taken that as such a olds men story but seems its more then that.

Gerd let me guess the trunk handel has been replaced and someone has but the inside door handel to the trunk because the original one was missing ore he/she saw that handel would look
very neat on the trunk?

That spare wheel tyer looks like it would have been taken from a American car, also GAZ 21 used same kind of tyers, but they did not have any whit walls as those that where made in the US. These tyers last really long and they are not poorer in quality as the US once.
I doubt the fuel cap for the ZIL 111 gas tank is original, it look like a oil cap taken from a GAZ 51/52 flathead engine.
