I love the cramping hands, and the tools falling in just the right spot that you can't find laying on your back. LOL, That is all I have known.

And the restful time you spend laying there, not doing anything for ten minutes, while you wait for your arm to uncramp so you can make your umpteenth attempt to get that hard to reach nut that you can't see started.

Oh yes, the all too familiar rest period. I usually spend more time resting than I do working on the car. LOL

After laying on my back for a couple of hours, I was finally able to get the tranny disconnected from the engine. Most of the time spent went to getting my arm and hand to stop cramping up. I'll tell you what, I really don't look forward to doing the clutch again anytime soon. That transmission is deceivingly heavy. I thought it would be fairly light compared to the automatics I am used to workin' on, but no.

Anyway, work will continue tomorrow. I need to slide the trans back a little farther, the input shaft is still in the way of my clutch. Then I will unbolt the pressure plate and get an idea of what I'm working with.

Hey Guys!

I've taken some time off from workin' underneath the car because my back had been killing me. No new updates on the clutch work, but I did find the time to fix up my leaking wheels. As you can see, the pitting in the wheel I picked up from the salvage yard was pretty bad, the other not so much. A little metal filler, some sanding, paint and primer, and they came out fairly well. I'm not sure that I will be keeping the flat black, but for now it works.

Till next time,

-Garrett

Thanks!

I used a mini die-grinder with a stone bit, as well as a lot of sandpaper. Also used a rust converter to go over the treated areas. If these wheels don't hold air, I don't know what will.

Hello Packardinfo-ers!

Finally got my clutch out today!!! And it didn't disappoint. It WAS the hardest thing I have done yet, and I'm still not done. It was like pullin' teeth to get that transmission to move back further, especially on my back. As soon as it was out of the way I was able to get the pressure plate unbolted. But then the darn pressure plate fought me when I tried to pull her out. Kept getting stuck on the throw-out fork, so I had to back off the adjusting nuts a tad. Didn't really get a chance to inspect the clutch disk, pressure plate, pilot bearing, or flywheel, due to it being dinner time! Will post some photos tomorrow....

Stay tuned,

-Garrett

Hey Guys!

The throw-out bearing seems to be fine, still have to figure out where my pilot bearing went. As you can see, the pressure plate face has a little groove in it, probably be able to get it machined. The clutch disk appears to be in re-build able condition.

Next step is to get the flywheel off to be re-surfaced, and get my clutch re-built, if that is the cheaper alternative.
