I asked the owner if this was an original Darrin and received back the answer of "I received this car in pieces little over 20 years ago. Spent a few years restoring it" Gorgeous car but I would recommend investigating it a little more to make sure it's always been the real thing

Hi

"...I would recommend investigating it a little more to make sure it's always been the real thing."

That's good advice, I recall there have been more '40 Darrin convertible sedans created beyond the originals. Of those, the number given is between nine and twelve produced. Apparently Auburn Central Manufacturing weren't too strict in their record keeping or they've been lost.

It may well be an original car but they might want to give the top a remake, that out-of-shape rear quarter looks horrible. It should have a nice forward rake angle.

Their stating
"This car has had a ground up restoration"

Think they mean they GROUND UP a PACKARD and built this.

That's about correct. The word I heard is that the windshield frame, and maybe the front doors are "leftover Darrin parts".
What a mess.

Sellers of mongrels need to be careful about their descriptions, law suits over misrepresentation are not unheard of on high-dollar cars.

The 55 Clipper Panama is advertised with a numbers matching 352 engine. These Super models came with the 320 engine. A very nice looking Clipper, but suspicious about the claims.
