It almost looks like it belongs on a 55 chevy, that color.

1401 convertible coupe up for sale on ebay, but the color strikes as odd. Was this an official color available in 36?

Hello BDC:

That color is Chinese Red and it was only available (as a standard color) in 1938, not 1936. Also known as paint scheme Z. You can see a color sample on the PAC website.

A fellow in MCP had a 1938 Su8 and the color was quite handsome paired with a tan interior.

Cannot speak to the coupe to convertible conversion.

These 42's are overpriced.

The late Captain Baldrige's car is still for sale at $12,500. He put $35,000 into it 35 years ago. It's not the greatest because he was so old and it wasn't stored very well. It wasn't much to start with, but he loved it because it was business/staff car.

Not one of the more sought-after models or body styles but they were a fine car. If the prior restoration was well done and the body wood and mechanicals are in good condition I'd say it's an exceptionally good buy for someone. I have a few friends with 1st and 2nd series 6-cylinder models and tour extensively with them, avoiding of course high speed highways.

Here is a still born 55 Clipper restoration that for some reason did not show up on Search Tempest. Lots of work already done but no drive train.
