A set of Woodlites across the pond:

http://london.craigslist.co.uk/ptd/5583786256.html

This 37 convertible coupe was on CL a few weeks ago for $15k, I tried to buy it but the lady wouldn't hold it till I was there even with a deposit. It was gone 2 days later.
Someone put a cadillac hood ornament on it.

Can anyone tell me what exactly I'm looking at here? Mongrel or real? It's a 35 dash for a 34 boattail? Floorboard and shifter don't look right, and the shifter shouldn't touch the seats. It has a tag from Fernandez & Darrin, Paris. Serial number (904) belongs to 1932.

Just get out the torch and heat the shifter handle up and bend it up a bit....

I'm inclined to think more mongrel than real. That's the first Packard I've seen with the gearshift mounted on the firewall instead of the floor; I'm curious as to how the shifter is hooked up to the transmission. In addition to the dashboard being later than 1932 or 1934, the headlamp buckets are 1935 and up also. The Flying Lady is vintage 1937-38. The bumpers are either custom-made for this car or are from some other vehicle. The radiator shell just doesn't look right to me in the oxbow area just below the hood ornament. Some of these anomalies could be explained by an owner wanting to keep the look of the car updated in the ensuing years, but he or she must have been a fanatic to update the dashboard.

I'd certainly want to see a lot more documentation on the car than just that nameplate to confirm its pedigree. Without such documentation it seems to be a recreation or tribute car, vintage unknown.

Hi

It looks like that old chestnut of a supercharged '37 Twelve re-bodied with an Auburn speedster body which was circulating on the auction circuit a decade ago. The body in this case, with the distinctive parallelogram door openings identify it as a 1928-29 Auburn speedster body. As can be seen in the high view, the body is too small scaled for such a large chassis, a poor match.

What they did to the radiator shell and hood, reducing its height, makes the hood-line fall as it comes forward, never seen on a Packard then. It's definitely a 'Heinz 57' mish-mash, with a "Fernandez & Darrin" coachbuilder tag stuck on to lend legitimacy. Buyer Beware, but I doubt they will....

Steve

Might as well post a few un-glamorized Packards:

A '51 200, stick, nice shape:

A '48 Eight, good project start:

A '56 Clipper Super sedan, yellow & white, odd continental kit:

A '51 300, ready to enjoy:

A '40 120 sedan, looks good, tempting, no price:

Proud 1953 Clipper Deluxe owner. Thinking about my next Packard, want a Clipper Deluxe Eight, manual shift with overdrive.
