Teaching Kids About Packard

PPG Trustee Bruce Blevins took time from his busy work day in order to share Packard history with a group of school kids from Grand Blanc, MI and with Fernando Palazuelo, the new owner of the Packard Plant.

You can see a slideshow here, courtesy of WDIV - Channel 4 news:
http://www.clickondetroit.com/community/slideshow-packard-owner-speaks-to-children/25505512

Bruce was approached by a local school teacher that wanted her class to meet Senor Palazuelo and could he arrange a meeting. Bruce was able to do that. But instead of meeting in Grand Blanc, it evolved into a field trip to Detroit at the Skillman Library (home of the National Automotive History Collection) and later to the Packard Plant.

A couple of things:
1) Notice that some of the kids are wearing T-shirts that they made as part of the visit
2) Bruce alerted the teacher and the kids that it was Fernando's birthday, so they brought a cake and sang "Happy Birthday" to him.
3) Detroit received 3.5 inches on snow on April 15th, the date of their visit.

That is a really cool story, Roger. Thanks for sharing it with us. As Packard owners, we all should try to engage with "civilians" to let them know and understand our cars. What I try to impress upon those interested in our cars is that all modern cars stand on the shoulders of those which came before them and that just because a car is old, it can still be very sophisticated and was quite modern for its time.

You can make a lot of really neat things from the parts left over after you rebuild your engine ...
