Curiously, very close to your car is 2272-16828 and it's a 1948, not a 1949. Theft-proof number is also just a few digits away, 871028. Have you checked in Bob Neal's book to see if your car might be a 1948 left-over and "renumbered" car?

PS - looked at the data a bit more closely. Your car's numbers are really right in step with other 1949 2272s except 2272-16828, so it's the one that's the anomaly, not yours. Perhaps the VN was jotted down incorrectly and it's also a -9- car. And if I read Neal's book correctly, at the time it was written there were no known "renumbered" 2272 cars.
