metallic paint was available- very fine aluminum particles, smaller than typically used today. Pearl was known but rare, and not offered by Packard. Changing the car to another color Packard offered is not a big deal. Going to a modern pearl will be noticeable.

Made the left cowl side panel and test fit it along with the inner rocker, A-pillar bottom, and A-pillar cover.

I offset the rocker panel under the B-pillar piece. This way the two pieces will be flush once they're welded together.

Reworked the front end of the rocker so it will blend into the A-pillar panel.

Your description of the very fine aluminum particles jives with what I was recently told about vintage metallic paints. They look much different than the modern metallics. He also told me that the vintage metallic effect can be duplicated now using finely ground pearl. Apparently, there is a supplier for the ground pearl as they are refinishing a 1930 Packard duplicating the vintage metallic look. You can just barely see the "metallic" in the paint.

We all have seen pre-war Packard that have been repainted with a modern metallic paint, and they just do not look right. Owner's car, owner gets to decide.

Major paint suppliers like PPG have quite a variety of metallic flake available for formulating, both in color and particle size. It's also possible to have the metallic flake ball-milled to a finer particle size before it's incorporated into the paint. This was done when I had Roman Copper Metallic prepared for the bottom color on my 56 Caribbean.

Been making progress, just not posting it. The owner has been here the last two weeks to help out. He's been stripping panels and helping me get the body squared up. Found more questionable work under the paint in the door jamb and tail panel.

Since the body had been off of the frame without proper bracing it was sagging pretty badly. We bolted up the doors to check how far off it was and the doors wouldn't close at first, they were overlapping the quarters. We adjusted the opening with the adjustable braces I welded in to get the door openings back into shape. Started by setting the door gap at the front and tack welding the door in place (couldn't use the lower hinge), then adjusting the braces until the rear was fitting properly.

Once the body was back in place and level on the frame I added more bracing to hold it in place. Definitely don't want it twisting once it's on the rotisserie.
