Looks like an aftermarket Marvel Mystery oiler.Very popular on older cars.I know many people who swear by the product.

Some directly into the intake manifold, others had an aux plate that fit under the carb with drilled passages feeding the oil. Some were a fixed "buy a unit for the engine size range" but on more expensive units there is an adjustable needle valve or interchangeable orifices located in the jar lid or the plate. The valve or orifice could be used to fine tune the specific amount of oil that could be drawn into the engine depending on size and typical operation or location.

copper line goes to a plate under the carburetor, vacuum does the work to meter oil to the engine.

My Hudson buddies have them and swear that they are the best thing since sliced bread! It appears to keep the upper portion of the engine lubed and in good shape. Your car will smoke briefly when starting up, so don't be alarmed by that.

I agree with all of the above. My Dad's 1955 Clipper Super sedan had a "Marvel Mystery Inverse Oiler" on the firewall. There was never a problem with the engine.

It goes inti the manifold or the bottom of the carbi.
And yes it does smoke on start up but not all the time I just put that down to it needing a good "blow out" down the road!
So how long should that fluid last and what fluid would i top it up with?
Would it be an upper cylinder lube that you buy for cars that are on gas (Lpg)?

Marvel Mystery Oil, of course. It is still sold in the USA at most auto parts stores.
