Didd the engine start and run with the OLD ignition parts???

If u have a dwell meter hook that up to the distributor or coil. If the dwell is erratic then very likely worn distributor bushings assumming a good coil and condenser.

Thanks to all of you in this forum that have replied. I felt like the timing was off but after more troubleshooting I realized that I had by mistake had the wires one terminal off. After I reset them in the correct order I hit the starter button and the engine started instantly. Thanks again for your input.

No better feeling that successfully starting a rebuilt engine for the first time. Pleased to hear it was a minor item causing the problem. It usually is.
