I was asked this question in an email. I decided to post my answer here for the most benefit. If I am in error, it will be corrected quickly.
Re the 56 torsion level gearbox. Can you tell me which hole on the gearbox the "up" limit switch screws into and which hole the "down" limit switch goes into ? You can probably do this by giving me some landmark(s) on the gearbox body to refer to.

I note that the switches themselves are the same electrically but just have different colored wires so as to connect differently on the black control box under the car.


The switch with the pink and orange wires goes on the drivers side of the TL mechanism.

The switch with the blue and yellow wires goes on the passenger side of the TL mechanism.
