Hi TroyT

Wow! A 25K miles Mayfair hardtop for $3,500! Grab it NOW! Even if you decide its one Packard too many, reselling should be no problem later.

Lets see, we know it's between South Bend and Southside Detroit. Huumm.....wonder if I can find it with Google Earth?!?!

I would definetly ask about the history and repairs made. Although the blue interior matches the exterior a lot better, the interior is not one of the six offered by Packard at that time. Of the six, one had better like red or black since they were the two dominant colors. It does seem to have some options on it: tailfins, exhaust extention, tinted glass, washer, etc.

Wasn't that the truth. I remember a 52 Mayfair briefly owned by a friend -- light blue with a bright red interior. Weren't the 52 models the year they hired Dorothy Draper to bring a little life and pizazz into Packard interiors..

I was thinking that car for sale might have had the add on seat covers but then looking at the blue upholstered seat frame again maybe it was reupholstered.

Making your photo a bit easier on the eyes! Looks pretty nice, it looks like it has full hub shell covers in the rear but plain hubcaps and trim ring in the front.

A question from the lay person.

I am of the understanding that their was only 5201 250 mayfairs built in 52. If so, how can this car be 5931?

The firewall looks like this car was white or cream. Does that match the paint codes?

I see a "don't mess with Texas" sticker on the front bumper, any history of it coming from Texas, or just the sticker?

Troy, the vehicle sequence portion or production number part of the vehicle number started at 2001, not 0001, so this particular car would be the 3931st built.

[Edited] Here's a handy little chart to keep track of starting numbers, courtesy of the PAC Membership Directory. Canadian-built Packards also used the same BTPPN system of vehicle numbers but started with 1001 from 1931 thru 1934, and 101 between 1935 and shutdown in 1939. I believe the chart is incorrect with regard to starting at 1 in 1931/32 but don't have enough data to be positive.

Edit: BTPPN = Body Type plus Production Number, started in the 8th series and used to the end of 1956.

It doesn't look like a low mileage car to me. And I've seen a lot of them.

Hi

Definitely doesn't look to be a 25K mile car. If it's from Texas, given the distances between towns, maybe 125K miles. But, to the plus side, it could be a solid, rust-free body. The original light cream shows on the lower portion of the cowl in the under-hood view.

Still, if it's good and solid, runs and drives, it's worth the price ask or some figure near that. Certainly an interesting Packard, wish more Mayfairs would turn up.
