My 1949 23rd series Golden Anniversary Std had a pushbutton under the dash just below the key. It also had the carb switch. Either could be used -- typically the carb switch when cold and the pushbutton when warm.

As far as I know it had the button when delivered from the dealer. We were only the second owner and the original owner kept a log of all work done on the car. There was no mention of adding the pushbutton.
