San Fran and northern part of state has been hit hard but locally it has been quiet so far. The tail end of the storm is supposed to arrive here around midnight but we're inland so not expected to have the downpour and winds SF has experienced.

Coming into the Inland Empire right now. I live at the top of a hill which is pretty much the high point in the area, and urban. So I dont expect any issues with flooding or mudslides.

Driving the 44 miles from Riverside to Irvine this morning for work did require me to build an Arc.

In Fresno, it arrived as predicted around midnight and a steady but not hard rain for the last 7 hours. Where I am is fairly high ground so all is well. AM news showed some flooding from runoff in lower areas around town but not much more than curb high and nothing like northern Calif that was in the news last night and was hit hard. Just too bad all the water is near the coast where it runs off into the ocean instead of filling up reservoirs.

Well it's not all that bad. They had someone on the news last night that monitors reservoir levels across the entire state. The total average reservoir levels in the state are 53% of normal. In in 1977/78 they were only at 38% of normal. So while this is a bad drought for sure, it's not the worse one we have had in the last 40 years.

Luckily, we appear to be getting some good snow fall in the Sierras, which is a major source of water for Southern Calif come the spring thaw.

I remember being in San Francisco during that drought. A penciled saying on a restroom wall, promoting water conservation read: If it is brown, flush it down. If it is yellow, let it mellow. I did not flush.

The lakes around Austin are at about 40%, one of the lowest levels in decades. In the summer of 2006 when we were here looking at neighborhoods for the planned move, the lakes were over flowing and the flood gates were full open. Quite a sight.

Hope everyone in the affected area gets through the rain and wind storm in good shape.
