'52 Rear Wheel Bearing Retainer Plates?

I pulled the rear drums on my '52 Patrician yesterday to investigate a rear brake that keeps locking up, and while the linings didn't provide any immediate clues, it looks to me like whomever removed the bearing retainers last time put the left on in BACKWARDS.

I've searched for photos but couldn't find any on here. Before I go yanking things and cursing the previous mechanic, can anyone who's looked at these recently confirm that the left one (pictured below) should be flipped around? Right rear is also attached for comparison.

I don't see a ridge around the left one - it looks like a flat plate. I don't think it is on backward - I think it is the wrong plate. The parts manual (12.030)says the left and right are identical. Yours do not look identical.

I don't think you can install them backwards. It appears to have the oil guard gasket on that plate so I would wonder if the guard is totally missing.

The right side looks correct. I think there is apart missing on the left side. Its the guard-shaft bearing oil. Parts book reference grp 12.030 and parts book illustration #110, 111 and 112.

You're all totally right, I can't believe I didn't see it. Gotta love it when parts are just plain missing.

Nothing is installed backwards. You are just missing the outer shield.

See attached photos of the outer shield and the plate which holds the outer rear axle seal.

Working on my rear axle seals assy, and I am second guessing myself on where the gaskets are supposed to be so I thought I would piggy back onto this thread. I will also link to avaluable tread here, too.http://packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=17888&forum=2&post_id=177604#forumpost177604
Is it correct for the larger gasket go behind the "seal plate" and the gasket seen in Photo #1 above to go between the seal & the dust cover or outer plate? A lenghy search on the forum has not turned up any great diagrams.
Thanks guys!

Take a look at my project blog. I have photos showing detailed disassembly and reassembly as well as the gaskets which really don't show up well on the diagrams.
