My Dad always told me that my Grandfather had a packard when he was a boy, and reviewing old photos I came across these two that reveal a limited view of the vehicle. Can any forum member help me out and identify the car? My Dad is in one of the pics, and by his age the date would be close to 1933. Hope someone can help. thanks

G'day rickh,
to PackardInfo.

In my inexperienced opinion the first photo could well be a late 30's Packard, while the bottom photo may not be a Packard. However, the more experienced will be able to give definitive answers.

I'm definitely not the most experienced packard identifier but this is what I notice on the 1st picture :

3 on the three first year 1939
Clock on the glove compartment makes it a 110 or a 120.

The car in the earlier photo is most likely a GM product, because that looks like a "Body by Fisher" tag on the lower leading edge of the cowl.

In fact, I'll go a little further out on a limb and say that it's likely a 1930 Chevrolet.

I can see now that it does resemble a chevy, do you think the second car is the same? I thought the visor and windshield was unique to a packard, but after searching for the chevy, I see that both are very simular. Thanks for replies, would love to know what model chevy if anyone knows.

You might try asking on the AACA site. There is a General forum in which questions like your are frequently asked, and answered. A more diverse group visits there.

My guess would be a 40 due to the chrome strip on the door. The 39 and 38 did not have the chrome. John

Hi

The car in the second photo is a '31 Oakland or Pontiac. The Fisher body with that molding style and visor were unique to 1931 Chevrolets, Pontiacs, Oaklands and Oldsmobiles. Only Oaklands and Pontiacs had the louvers on a raised panel.

For 1932, the visor disappeared and the GM went to hood doors across the board.

I think you are right Steve, I located this 31 oakland and from all appearances it looks the same, until today I never knew the oakland existed. thanks
