As we are preparing to select colors for our 1941 Packard, I am getting opposing information. will the firewall be painted a standard color regardless of the paint color for the car's body ?
Thank you

One of those who visit here regularly and who is very familiar with 1941 Packards is "RogerDetroit" so I'd recommend you wait to hear from him. But by memory from my own 41 Packards and those several that other friends own, the cowl is body color and if the car is two-tone, it's the lower body color.

Thank you Owen. Your memory as to cowl color matching body or lower body color is correct, as usual.

Too add to the comment about two-toning:
When a car is two-toned, the upper part of the inside of the doors is painted the lower color.

I cannot remember how the B pillar is handled, tho, but for some reason I think it's supposed to be the lower body color all the way up as well.

What I've struggled with is the underside of the hood(s). Any confirmation on this? I've seen both, and while my car was original paint, it seemed black. But I've had folks claim confidently it's the color of the car.

No archive pics I've seen have helped me.

I talked to a well respected & well known Packard collector recently about my 38 super 8, and asked him about the color of the firewall because mine has a black firewall and the car is dark blue. According to him he has seen it both ways; black and body color on the firewall. My car has no proof of been black before and the firewall has no blue on it.

What I've struggled with is the underside of the hood(s). Any confirmation on this? I've seen both,

Both of my 41s which I owned when they were relative young cars (late 50s, early 60s) had hood undersides in semi-gloss black. You really can't determine anything for certain by examining restored cars.
