I am trying to remove the radiator from my 1940 packard 110. Does anyone know of a step by step illustration?

G'day mroxnard,
to PackardInfo. Don't know of such, but that's not to say there isn't one. However one way is to remove the front clip, ie the front fenders and grill as a unit. You'll need to remove the hood and disconnect everything then with the help of some friends, who'll need to be rewarded for their efforts , lift the complete assembly off. A major benefit of doing it this way is making the engine very accessible. And, very important if you're having the radiator checked or rebuilt, you'll be able to remove the water pump and check it and the water distribution tube in the block behind the water pump. The distribution tube can be clogged up with debris preventing cooling water reaching it's intended destinations, especially around the rearmost cylinders. Or you can, also with the help of a friend, just lift out the radiator but that obviates the other benefits mentioned.

I'll be pulling the front clip off my '41 120 Coupe in the near future, for 1) a radiator check and rebuild if necessary, 2) check the water pump and clean and check the distribution tube and 3) fix an oil leak. But all that is waiting until my garage is built.
Normally about here I'd ask you to include your Packard in the Registry but see it's already there, so , looks like it has all the bells and whistles.

You can proceed as follows:

Cover finished surfaces for protection.

Remove hood and rotate stabilizer rods clear.

Cut a piece of cardboard to completely cover the radiator fins. Install between fan and radiator.

Remove fan and water pump. It may be necessary to use a jack under the motor if the front mount is sagging. (use wood between jack and oil pan in that case).

Leaving cardboard in place the radiator can be tilted back and lifted out of the engine bay. This requires some gymnastics in the absence of a crane, but the 110 radiator is not very heavy.

Hope this helps.

(If memory serves me correctly, I removed the McCord cellular radiator from the 120 without removing the water pump. With the cardboard in place I was able to tilt the unit back and lift it out while sitting on the cowl).
