I'm not real familiar with the 8. Maybe slide the cam forward about 1/10" and push the crank BACK UNTIL it stops and retry fitting.

Mite be that cam end play is adjusted wrong or cam setting to far back which would cause misalignment if u actualy got it installed.

Chek new chains against each other and old chain.

Good Morning O-D...

When I have seen this is when the crankshaft comes back with the mains at 0.002 or so under the correct size, due to polishing or clean up. The same with the Camshaft. Often when a crank or cam comes back from a trusted supplier, the rebuilder does not re-measure it, but trusts that it is correct. When this is discovered, bad words have been known to be uttered! Sorry for the delay in getting back to you all...busy weekend.

Anyhoo...the story goes that the sprockets were both in excellent shape and the machinist simply replaced the chain. Through a conversation with Ross it seems that the machinist is convinced that the design of the chain is just a bit different than the OEM design and therefore the tightness.

He said he tried to move the cam back and forth a bit but no good. I will visit tomorrow and note any markings on the chain/sprocket.

THANKS AGAIN,

Bill
