Packard and philately

As kids, most of us were probably into Philately to a smaller or larger extent. I "collected" postage stamps without a lot of purpose, just filling pages in stamp albums, without any idea of the value that could be involved. That is until high school when a mate, wiser than me, enlighted me to other aspects of philately. This included First Day Covers and I collected those. Probably still have some stashed away in the archives. But, just recently my son-in-law gave me a pair of Fist Day Covers which he'd picked up in the '90's, both automotive with one a Packard, see pic's. These won't arouse any underlying latent interest but will become another piece of my diverse Automobilia "collection", which mainly comprises rusty nuts and bolts!

Perhaps 20 years ago (back when 1st class postage was 25 cents) the U.S. Post Office issued a very elegant block of 4 1st class commemorative stamps, each with a different Classic car, one was a Packard, I forget the others. I used most of mine for postage and not sure I saved any but if I did I'll scan later. But almost certainly someone else here has them and has saved 1 of each.

Interesting the Dusenberg first day cover has a Detroit stamp and not one from Auburn.

Never did find my full set of unused Classic Car stamps the U.S.P.O. issued, but I did come across something I saved which shows 3 of the 4.

I don't recall what club or organization did it but the Packard stamp image was used to produce a very nice gold-colored lapel pin.

Dave,

Can't believe it's co-incidence, or maybe it's deja-vu all over again? But just came across a similar badge!
