The Roosevelts

That was a terrific series on the Roosevelts, one would expect no less from Ken Burns. Perhaps even better than the civil war series though there was more archival material to select from. Yeah, lots of Packards including perhaps a fleeting image of one of Stalin's in the Yalta footage.

According to the Smithsonian, there were 9 Packards assigned to the White House during FDR's tenure;

The 1932 Twin Six Touring (905-570) used by FDR when Governor of NY State still survives in the NY State garage in Albany and if you grovel with the attendants you might be able to get to see it. One of the 37 Twelves, later owned by Fred Duggan of Spring Lake NJ was destroyed in a fire in 1966 in a museum in Cape May, NJ. Last I knew the 39 Twelve which had the longest tenure in the White house (into 1948) was in the Larz Anderson museum in Boston.

Again according to the Smithsonian, there were 5 Packards assigned to the White House during the Truman administration;

You said it, Owen, it was a terrific series. Packards figured prominently in the FDR years. The best footage was of the 1944 NYC campaign parade, the '39 Twelve phaeton looked so regal and magnificent leading in the rain.

If you want to read an equally terrific book on those years, read No Ordinary Time by Doris Kearns Goodwin.

Yes, there was a glimpse of Stalin's armored Twelve Limousine in the Yalta footage. It was all blacked-out, looking as sinister as Uncle Joe himself.

1949 movie Impact Light colored 22nd series convertible. Unfortunately the car met its end with a crash head on into a tanker carrying "High Octane" fuel. Both vehicles go over a cliff in spectacular and fiery fashion.

In the movie "Hollywoodland" (2006) about the death of George Reeves (TV's Superman). At Reeves funeral, there is a 1956 Packard Caribbean convertible in the background of a conversation between actor Adrian Brody and another actor. Since Reeves died in 1959 (and was presumbly buried the same year), that is an anachronism (not time period correct), but what the heck!?!

I may be dense and at 7AM without a sufficient amount of coffee,
but why is the time period not correct? The funeral was 1959 and the car was a 1956, it would have only been 3 years old at the time.
