Hi Bryce

Here it is, another '54 Clipper Sportster! Possibly a very solid body too:

Proud 1953 Clipper Deluxe owner. Thinking about my next Packard, want a Clipper Deluxe Eight, manual shift with overdrive.

Thanks, that looks like it might be an option, considering the fact that he keeps dropping the price!

So I have about everything disconnected from the engine, but I was wondering what the best way to disconnect the Ultramatic from the engine is? I'm not planning on pulling the trans and engine together.

Ok so thanks to everyone's help I have the transmission removed. I don't know much about Ultramatics, but does this look like it has been rebuilt/replaced or do these parts just stay well preserved? Thanks

They generally stay very nice looking in there unless they have been massively overheated. Yours looks quite normal.

I have finally had some more time to work on the car. I am still taking apart the engine, making sure to take lots of pictures and bag and tag all of the bolts. I got the manifold off and found lots of junk in the ports. What I am wondering is how to check the internal condition of the starter and generator. What are the internal parts supposed to look like? Some other parts look like they are either in good original condition or a previous restoration, so I am wondering if maybe the starter and generator were previously rebuilt?

I also opened up the power brake unit and found some nasty stuff in there too.

Hi. Progress has been slow on the Sportster since I have been rebuilding my truck engine, but I've been disassembling the engine for a rebuild. I got curious and took off a couple of rod caps (making sure to put them back exactly how they came off) and to me they look amazing compared to the rest of the engine. I ran my fingernail over the bearings and rod journal and it didn't catch anywhere. Here are some pictures, what do you think? The rag I wiped the oil off with got some small dirt particles on them so that's what shows up in the pics.
