Thanks, I will try that. I also think that relay sockets can also be used for the flasher base. I mean the ones for the kind of relays that we use for common headlight relay wire upgrade.
The packard flasher base has a nice metal clip that holds it onto the loom, which is neat and tidy. I was hoping to retain that, but I guess if it goes for a new base, then that is not the end of the world.

Yes - Wade connectors can be a mongrel to get apart. I took an old hacksaw blade and ground it a bit narrower on both edges of one end, for around 1-1/2inches. Then I cut a 1/8inch groove (approx) down the center of the blade (with another hacksaw blade - difficult but hold in a vice and do a small cut at a time).

Then you can push it into the connector from opposite end and it compresses the contacts enough so you can pull out the terminal (- usually works, not always!)

Late now but if you like I can post a photo of the 'tool'. Let me know . . .

Thanks for the hint Larry. Not too late! I am slow, and the 50$ worth of terminals I ordered from RI are still in the mail (or sitting in customs someplace)
I'll try that with the hacksaw blade on my remaining wade connectors. Still collecting all my parts for the harness.
I was at the Stuttgart "retro classic" convention this past weekend, and found the female blade terminals with a right angle end on them. Now I can re-use the original flasher base. I saw a 55 400 coupe in very nice original condition asking 30k? and a 6cyl race car from buenos aires. They were the only packards in sight.

Some progress on the harness today, about 1/3 done. The 6way connector for the steering column was "easy" to solder apart and back together with nice new flexible!!!! wires. Still waiting for the more special connectors from RI. What a difference in flexability between the old and new wires.

Tiny progress on the clipper...I took apart and cleaned the door switches. Cleaned the contacts and the plunger goes in and out faster and smother now. The terminals I ordered from amazon.com came from china pretty quickly. I just drilled out the hole on the drill press so it fits in the switch. The other terminals from RI must still be in customs someplace
The hydraulic pump from Gregor is on the way to Sweden where is may see use in a 48 convertible, and Gregor's patrician has a 4 way flasher system so it is getting closer to it's inspection date.

What kind of paint should be on the hood latch? I mean the part that hangs down from the hood where I hit my head. Black, silver? That is the next 'small part' that will be cleaned and painted.

That was originally cadmium plated. As was the receiving latch--so a nice dull silver.

Hood latch parts cleaned but still waiting for painting. My terminals from RI wire made it through customs, so I have been able to get some more done on the wire harness. It is slow work, but rewarding. The crimps look professional. I've been using a ratcheting crimper, and sometimes a non-ratcheting and then soldering the connections, then shrink hose...Time consuming, but looks good. And the new wires are sooo flexible. Starter is also done. I had gotten a 12V field coil as well as all other rebuild parts from Jason at AER, but whimped out and brought the parts to a shop here and had them finish the job. The button on the solenoid is pretty slick. Can't wait to try it!
I put the new tag on the starter, but you can't really see it so well when it is installed in the car...oh well. I know it is there!
When the harness is pretty well sorted out, I might think about firing up the new engine....I think it is time to do that and get some motivation....Still might be a month or so before that day arrives

Lots of cutting, crimping, soldering and shrink Tube going on on The clipper. Harness is almost roughed out. Some ends are already crimped, and others are waiting for wrapping with Electric tape and then i will finish the ends, another day or two and The harness will be finished.
There was a condensor on one of The terminals of my ignition switch. It is off right now, and I don't know which Terminal it should go on. Any body Else have this?
Thanks! Happy Easter!

The condenser is part of the radio noise suppression and Packard says lead should go on the coil terminal.

Thanks a bunch, Howard.
Excited to get some electrons flowing in this baby.
I imagined that the condensor helped the ig switch to break the DC current, or at least help protect the terminals inside the switch, but guess it is just Noise suppression.
